Shared ownership

Does anyone know if local authorities are able to purchase shared ownership properties from a developer and retain the equity share in the HRA?
  • I am not aware of any reason why you could not acquire shared ownership dwellings for social housing in the HRA provided that this is to meet needs not adequately served by the market as defined in the Housing and Regeneration Act 2008. However, expenditure on the acquisition will not be eligible for the use of retained (1-4-1) receipts as these properties do not meet the definition of social housing in the retention agreement (specified as low cost rental accommodation and not low cost home ownership).
